CBD, CBD isolate, CBD distillate, cannabinoids, terpenes, what does it all mean? When it comes to the world of CBD, there are terms you'll want to be familiar with. Before we get into these terms, let's look at CBD.
CBD is the abbreviation for the word cannabidiol. CBD is not a psychedelic. It does not make you high. CBD is found in the buds, leaves, stems, stalks, and seeds of cannabis. CBD is particularly rich in a variety of cannabis known as industrial hemp.
Only EU-approved hemp cultivars containing 0.2% THC or less are legally allowed in the UK. However, the end product container must not contain more than 1mg of any controlled substances such as THC, CBN etc. These regulations are strictly enforced. Anything over 0.2% is considered marijuana and anything over 1mg in a closed container is considered illegal. For this reason, all companies doing legal, reputable business in the UK offer multiple independent third-party lab test results to verify the authenticity of their product. Now that we've covered CBD let's explore CBD terminology.
Cannabinoids are the unique compounds found in the cannabis plant. These include CBD, CBG, CBN, CBC, THC and more.
Terpenes are compounds found in nature but are not unique to the cannabis plant. Terpenes is what gives the plant its aroma
CBD distillate is a highly concentrated type of CBD that has been refined using distillation. CBD distillate typically contains levels of CBD that average 75% or higher, along with other cannabinoids like CBG, CBC and minor amounts of THC vape juice and CBN. CBD distillate also has terpenes, flavonoids, minerals, and amino acids found in the cannabis plant.
CBD isolate is pure CBD without any other plant compounds such as terpenes, flavonoids, or other cannabinoids. The end result of CBD isolate is pure CBD powder, which is typically 99%+ pure, although never 100%.
Broad spectrum CBD contains cannabinoids like CBG, CBC, terpenes, flavonoids, and more but has zero THC. Some broad-spectrum CBD products may contain trace amounts of CBN so do keep that in mind. Broad spectrum CBD is usually synonymous with CBD distillate without the THC.
There is no gold standard on the spectrum of cannabinoids present so it can vary from one manufacturer to another. It is best to look at the cannabinoid profile in the third-party lab tests
Full spectrum CBD vape pen contains everything found in cannabis, including cannabinoids THC and CBN, flavonoids, terpenes, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.
As with broad spectrum, there is no gold standard for the ratios or individual levels of each cannabinoid, so they typically differ from one manufacturer to the next. It is best to check out third-party lab reports to see the cannabinoid profile.
CBD bast fibers are located on the outside stalk of an industrial hemp seed from plant. These fibres are extremely durable and strong. They can be manufactured into multiple products, such as fabric, paper, insulation, cordage, and much more.
CBD Tincture is not to be confused with CBD oil. CBD Tincture is an alcohol-based liquid extract made using cannabis plant material and high-proof alcohol. The plant material is soaked in high-proof alcohol and then strain to remove all plant material. The liquid left behind is CBD tincture.
CBD oil is an edible oil made from industrial hemp using a carrier oil such as avocado oil, hemp oil, grape seed oil, or MCT oil plus mixed with terpenes for the extra cannabis smell. The extract is decarboxylated and then infused into a carrier oil to create CBD oil.
CBD vape oil is also known as CBD vape juice or CBD E liquid. It is a vapeable liquid that contains CBD and flavours. There are three main types of CBD vape oils. The first is PG VG based e liquids, the second is MCT oil based vape oil and finally the third is vapeable CBD distillate.
CBD edibles as the term suggests are edible or consumable products containing CBD, such as CBD gummies, CBD chocolates, CBD hard candies, and more.
CBD beverages are liquid beverages containing CBD, such as CBD coffee, CBD tea, CBD water, CBD beer and more.
CBD topicals are CBD products that are topically applied products such as lotions, creams, soaps, salves, balms, bath bombs, and more.
CBD pharma are CBD products such as CBD capsules, patches, inhalers, pain creams, and more.
