Why Does My Vape Makes Me Feel Sick?

Though there are different types of vapes, we are mainly discussing CBD vape pens. Such vapes are among the safest vapes and have many health benefits. However, not everyone can tolerate vaping well. Many people who start vaping may feel dizzy, nauseated, tired, and sick. Since CBD vapes have so many health benefits, many people ask why does my vape makes me feel sick.

Of course, here we are not talking about some severe health issues that may occur in rare cases. We are more interested in the lack of pleasant feeling that one expects. Most people buy CBD vapes or CBD oils to enjoy vaping and not to feel dizzy or sick. Nevertheless, vapes do cause minor issues in many instances. Such issues are not severe, but they spoil the whole vaping experience.

Below are some of the common reasons why vaping makes you feel sick:

Inappropriate Dose

People generally need time to get used to vaping. Those who have never smoked need time to get used to nicotine vaping. Similarly, people need time to get used to CBD vaping. Although CBD is safe even at very high dosages, but many people are intolerant to CBD.

CBD intolerance may cause issues like nausea, dizziness, mild headaches, increased heart rate, blood pressure drop, and even vomiting.[1]

To avoid such issues, always listen to your body signals and start slowly and with lower dosages.

In rare instances, these issues could be due to a specific flavour. Flavours added to vape juices are not fruit extracts. Many vapes even add synthetic flavours that may be quite different from natural aromas. Hence, if you dislike the aroma, change the flavours, which may help.

Low-Quality or Contaminated E-Liquids

We continually warn in our articles that contaminants or impurities are the biggest reason for vaping side effects. Nicotine or CBD are not likely to make people sick. However, certain impurities may make people feel unwell.

To prevent this, opt for e-liquids from reputable sources and verify that they undergo third-party testing for quality and safety.

Allergic Reactions

Some people may have allergies or sensitivities to certain ingredients in e-juices, such as propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG), or specific flavourings.[2]

Allergic reactions can manifest as nausea, skin rashes, or respiratory issues. If you suspect an allergy, consider switching to e-liquids with different ingredients.

Additionally, when starting out vaping, choose vape pens or e-juices with fewer ingredients, something simpler, and avoid exotic flavours. Instead, choose flavours you know that you like well.

PG/VG Ratio

The ratio of PG to VG in your e-liquid can influence how you feel after vaping. Some people may experience nausea or other discomfort when using e-liquids with a high PG content.

Experimenting with different PG/VG ratios may help you find one that suits you. This is something one can learn through a bit of trial and error.

Dehydration

Vaping can lead to mild dehydration due to the act of inhaling the ingredients in e-liquids, which can contribute to fluid loss.

Dehydration can result in symptoms like dry mouth, dizziness, and nausea. Staying well-hydrated by drinking water before and after vaping can help alleviate this issue.

Wrong Inhaling Technique

Sometimes, the cause of sickness may be pretty simple. You might be inhaling too quickly. This can overwhelm your system, causing nausea. That is why most experts say to be slow. Do not be over-enthusiastic when getting started, and give your body some time to adapt.

Vaping on Empty Stomach

If you vape on an empty stomach, you are likelier to feel sick. However, this issue is likelier to occur due to nicotine vaping than CBD. This is because nicotine stimulates gastric acid production. Nicotine also influences intestinal motility. These issues are rare with CBD vapes and CBD does not show up in a drug test, which have a calming impact on the intestine. Nonetheless, inhaling vapours may cause some issues in a few people.

Low-Quality or Counterfeit Vaping Devices

We would keep repeating this in every article. Remember that side effects and sickness are much more likely due to poor-quality products. Low-quality vapes contain impurities or chemicals known to harm health. Remember that studies show that CBD vaping is not expected to harm health, but impurities can.[3]

Individual Sensitivity

Sometimes, it is difficult to explain the cause of sickness after vaping. It is vital to understand that what may make one person feel sick may not cause any issues for others. Suppose you've explored all the other possibilities and continue to feel sick after vaping. In that case, it's possible that vaping may not agree with your body, and you might need to consider alternative methods for consuming CBD or nicotine.

The Bottom Line

If you regularly experience feelings of sickness after vaping, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional. In some instances, consulting vaping experts may also help. Sometimes, online information sources and forums may also help identify the cause of sickness. Additionally, consider other options if you are using vaping as a smoking cessation tool.
