The chances that your CBD oil or vape may turn brown are slim. This is because oils are stable. CBD oils mainly contain carrier oils like MCT oil (derived from coconut) or olive oil, with CBD extracts and a few other ingredients added in small amounts for health benefits.
Anyone knows that edible oils like MCT or olive oil are stable. They remain good for long-term consumption and do not require very strict storage conditions. This means that if you store your CBD oil in a cool place and away from sunlight, it will remain good to use for a long time.
Although, in theory, such chances are slim, it is possible. Although oils are stable, CBD and other ingredients are less stable. Moreover, most ingredients tend to oxidise, though such processes occur very slowly. It means that good quality CBD oil will only turn brown when stored improperly for a long time. If your CBD oil readily turns brown, it may be of poor quality.
Perhaps the most common reason for CBD oil changing colour could be long exposure to direct sunlight. It is worth understanding that most ingredients in CBD oils are sensitive to UV rays. However, such degradation would only occur if CBD oils are stored in direct sunlight.
But, perhaps, even the more common cause for CBD oil turning brown could be oxidisation due to prolonged air exposure. That is why one should always store CBD oil in a tightly closed container.
There could also be some other less common reasons for CBD oil turning brown, such as storage at improper temperatures. Generally, storing CBD oil near a heat source may also cause it to change colour. Some products might also change colour due to ageing, which may not necessarily indicate something bad.
Finally, it is worth keeping in mind that very few products tend to turn brown. Lots also depend on extraction methods and kinds of CBD extracts used to create final products. Browning may occur often due to additives like terpenes, flavours, or other additives. Also, remember that many CBD oils are not entirely transparent, and their colour depends on the carrier oil type used.
To sum up, if you store your CBD oil properly, the chances are slim that it might change its colour. However, in rare instances, some products may turn brown on prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or air.
